PETALING JAYA: The Transport Ministry will carry out an investigation on the driver who allegedly crashed his lorry into five other vehicles, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

       The Transport Minister said the driver will be subject under the Industry Code of Practice (ICOP) audit.

       "If the holder of the licence fails the audit, which is a part of the conditions set for commercial services licences, action to suspend or cancel the licence can be taken by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).

       "The suspension of his license can also be conducted by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) if he is charged in court," he said.

       He added that if the suspect is found guilty, he will be prevented from holding a driver’s licence for no less than five years from the date of sentencing.

       On Monday (Sept 6), a driver escaped with only light injuries to his face despite his car being crushed in the accident caused by a runaway lorry.

       The accident occurred at around 2.40pm at the traffic light intersection along Jalan Ipoh.

       Investigations revealed that a lorry was headed towards Sentul from Jalan Duta when its driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the back of five cars.

       The lorry driver was detained and initial tests showed he was not under the influence of alcohol.

       He was then taken to the Dang Wangi police headquarters for a urine test and found positive for methamphetamines and amphetamines.

       The driver has been remanded for four days.

       Several videos and pictures of the accident from dashcam footage have been circulating on social media and messaging apps.

       One video shows the car, reduced to an unrecognisable wreck, pinned between the lorry and an SUV.

       Another video shows several people frantically trying to pry open the wrecked vehicle, and the driver emerges with blood on his face and walks away.
