Lord Frost met with France's EU minister Clement Beaune on Thursday to discuss issues surrounding Jersey fishing licences. After holding talks with the French minister, Lord Frost will meet with Mr Sefcovic where the two will discuss issues caused to trade in Northern Ireland. The UK has warned a solution to the Protocol must be reached in the near future or the Government will trigger Article 16 to unilaterally suspend parts of the Brexit deal.

       EU officials believe the UK will trigger the procedure after the COP26 summit this month as tension remain high.

       During his meeting with Mr Beaune, Lord Frost also discussed the Northern Ireland Protocol.

       The Government's spokesperson said: "We are seeking substantive changes to the Protocol with the EU.

       "These changes are necessary because the Protocol as it’s currently being enforced is extremely damaging to the people of Northern Ireland and the businesses therein.”
