PETALING JAYA: A woman allegedly stabbed her own thigh and then made up a story about how she was attacked by a snatch thief while she was driving.
Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said the woman allegedly injured herself in the right thigh at Taman Greenwood, Gombak on Aug 14.
"We conducted a thorough investigation and found that the woman made up the whole story.
"She received seven stitches for the injuries she inflicted on herself," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 17).
He added further investigations revealed the woman acted this way as she was experiencing emotional pressure due to family problems.
"The investigation paper was referred to the Selangor deputy public prosecutor and the woman will be charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code for lodging a false report.
"We hope this will be a lesson for the rest of the public to refrain from such acts," he said.
It was reported that a female driver was allegedly stabbed and had her handbag stolen by a snatch thief in Taman Greenwood, Gombak here.
She claimed she was in her car when a man opened her car door and tried to snatch her bag, claiming that the suspect stabbed her during the struggle before fleeing with her handbag.
However, the woman could not give a proper description of the suspect and the incident
She was rushed to Hospital Selayang and is in stable condition, while police initially began investigating the case as causing hurt during a robbery.
Investigations revealed the woman was driving her brother's car alone.
