PETALING JAYA: One day after the special Employee Provident Fund (EPF) RM10,000 withdrawal scheme announcement, scammers are already on the prowl for potential victims.
On Twitter today (March 17), EPF warned members of the public to beware of ads claiming to provide links for users to apply for the special withdrawal scheme. It added that no third party has been appointed to manage the application of special withdrawals.
The message included a screenshot of a user’s post on Twitter sharing a link to a fake website, which users are encouraged to click on if they are looking for the website to apply for the special withdrawal.
EPF announced yesterday (March 16) that members can start applying for the special withdrawal scheme from April 1 to 30, with payment starting on April 20. It has not provided details on the application method.
Scammers had previously targeted applicants for other EPF withdrawal schemes. In 2020, EPF warned members of the public to beware of fake i-Sinar mobile apps where unsuspecting users were duped into providing personal details to check the status of their application.
Members of the public can check their EPF account details through the official EPF website, i-Akaun app and EPF kiosks at various locations nationwide with details available here.
