PETALING JAYA: For the third consecutive day, the country’s daily Covid-19 cases stayed below the 6K mark as the country reported 5,516 new infections.
This is a small reduction from the 5,747 cases reported the previous day and just slightly more than Monday’s 5,434 infections.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the figure, 98.2% (5,414 cases) were mild and asymptomatic cases.
“Another 102 cases or 1.8% are Category Three, Four and Five infections,” he said in a press statement. There are 14 imported cases while the rest are local transmissions.
Of the 5,502 locally transmitted cases, 5,267 (95.7%) involved Malaysians while 235 (1.8%) were foreigners.
Cumulatively, Malaysia has recorded a total of 2,407,382 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began last year.
Yesterday, Malaysia discharged 9,401 Covid-19 patients, bringing the total recoveries to 2,297,289 or 95.4%.
There are now 669 patients in intensive care units nationwide, down from 682 the previous day. Some 333 patients are on ventilator support.
The Covid-19 death toll has surpassed the 28,000 mark after another 69 people died on Tuesday. Of the total fatalities, 11 were classified as brought-in-dead (BID) cases, based on the CovidNow website.
