JOHOR BARU: Johor has channelled almost 18,000 tents to be used by flood victims at high-risk locations throughout the state, decreed Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.
His Majesty added that flood preparations were made annually and updated accordingly by the state disaster management committee, which is chaired by the state secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani.
"Whether it happens or not, we are on high alert for floods every year. Not only tents, but other preparations are also prepared in advance to be deployed immediately if an area is hit by floods.
"Assistance is not only for when a flood occurs, but also needs to be provided to continue the life of victims after the disaster.
"Houses needed to be cleaned, damaged equipment needed to be replaced and so on,” said His Majesty in a statement posted on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page here on Saturday (Jan 1).
Earlier, Sultan Ibrahim visited a relief centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Tenang in Labis to visit 272 flood victims from 93 families seeking shelter there.
Also present was Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Ibni Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.
During the visit, Sultan Ibrahim also ordered additional mattresses and pillows for the comfort of the victims at the PPS.
"My foundation will try its best to help the flood victims in Johor, but I have only two hands.
"I cannot do it alone. I hope more parties will come forward to help each other.
"I also called on the people of Johor to perform sunat hajat prayers and pray for the relief of the disaster they face, as well as for protection," said His Majesty.
