AMPANG: A security guard who claimed that he had spotted a tiger in Kemensah Heights has been remanded for 14 days after it was found he did not possess valid documents.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the 51-year-old Bangladeshi man has been remanded until June 3 to assist in the police investigation.

"He was arrested at the security post on Jalan Tropika Kemensah 3 on Friday (May 20)," he said on Monday (May 23).

On Saturday (May 21), ACP Mohamad Farouk said that the suspect had no valid documents to stay in Malaysia and had been arrested for further investigation.

"He is believed to be the same man who said that a tiger was seen there," he said.

On Friday, the police said they were investigating a possible tiger sighting in Kemensah Heights, based on a viral WhatsApp message.

Police and Selangor Wildlife Department personnel were dispatched to the area to investigate.

Efforts to track down the tiger were unsuccessful as the information given was incomplete.

Zoo Negara had also confirmed that none of their tigers had escaped.

The police urged all not to spread false news that could lead to unrest and panic within the community.
