After intense storms and winds early in the week and with some rain expected Friday into Saturday, Chicago-area residents can look forward to a dry Halloween, according to the Chicago National Weather Service.
During prime trick-or-treat hours from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, temperatures are expected to hover in the mid-50 degrees. According to weather service meteorologist Jake Petr, temperatures will begin to slowly drop after the sun sets around 5:50 p.m., falling into the mid-40s by 10 p.m.
“In the outer suburbs, especially in the northwest suburbs, it may start to dip into the upper 30s at the end of the night,” Petr said.
Petr said there may be some minor wind chill, but nothing like what Chicagoans saw Monday, when wind speeds in the city rose to nearly 50 mph.
This Halloween will likely be on par with the average temperature for Oct. 31 in Chicago, according to weather service data.

The record for the coldest Oct. 31 was set in 1873 with a high temperature of 31 degrees and the lowest low at 23 degrees. This year’s high is expected to be a far more palatable at 57 degrees and the low at the mid 30s, which is below Chicago’s norm.

No precipitation is forecast for Sunday, Petr said, but on the Friday and Saturday we can expect some rainfall.
“For the next couple of days expect plenty of periods of showers,” Petr said. “It won’t be quite like the system that we had this week, but there still could be some gusty winds out of the east. The stronger winds will be kind of right along the immediate lake shore.”
Friday will see scattered showers all day, but the rain should begin ending Saturday morning.
Friday and Saturday, the temperature will peak in the mid-50s before dropping into 40s over night, the weather service said.
While Petr said he doesn’t expect any snowfall or freezing temperatures, Chicago’s first frost may occur as early as Monday or Tuesday night, when nightly temperatures will be colder than usual.
