IPOH: Action has been taken against a motorist with a hearing disorder who blocked the path of an ambulance on the North-South Expressway (NSE), say police.
Without elaborating, Kampar OCPD Supt Mohamad Nazri Daud said "appropriate" action had been taken against the 62-year-old man, who suffers from tinnitus due to an acoustic neuroma (a benign brain tumour).
He said the police on Sunday (May 15) detected a video clip of the incident, believed to have occurred on KM292 northbound of the NSE.
"We called the driver and owner of the MPV to be present at the district police station on Sunday at 5pm, he said in a statement.
"The driver started having tinnitus three years ago and is still being treated at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre," he said.
In the 37-second video clip that went viral on social media, a white-coloured MPV is seen blocking the ambulance even though its siren and lights are on.
Supt Mohamad Nazri said the police will continue to beef up its traffic enforcement efforts to ensure the safety of road users in the district.
"We also want to thank motorists who are careful and to those who forward information to us," he added.
