Johor polls: PKR not planning on tit-for-tat move against Muda, says state party chief

JOHOR BARU: PKR has no plans for a tit-for-tat move against the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) by fielding its own candidates in seats that Muda is contesting in the upcoming Johor polls.

Johor PKR chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said it would not do so as a sign of respect to their fellow Pakatan Harapan partners DAP and Parti Amanah Negara.

"Any such move will not be wise and voters will resent it, especially when they are fed-up with the constant political power struggle," he said in a statement Friday (Feb 25).

Syed added that PKR would only concentrate in helping candidates from DAP and Amanah in this election, if Muda went ahead to field a candidate in a seat contested by them.

"I am disappointed with Muda’s decision to contest the Larkin seat as it will go against the spirit of a united opposition in the state," he said, adding that Muda’s move was probably due to the deadlock in seat negotiations between both parties.

He, however, stressed that Muda still had time to reconsider its decision before nominations on Saturday (Feb 26).

PKR had announced that it would be fielding Dr Zamil Najwah Arbain for the seat. On Thursday Muda announced that its state information chief Rasid Abu Bakar would be contesting in the state.

To date Muda has announced that it would be contesting in seven seats.

Other seats that they are contesting include Tenang, Bukit Kepong, Bukit Permai, Machap, Parit Raja and Puteri Wangsa.
