Can star signs increase your luck?
Well, according to the stars some signs are luckier than others, so read on and see if you should pop out and buy that winning lotto ticket. It could be you!
Leo – Oh, Leo we knew you’d be one of the lucky ones. You always look good, have a string of admirers and just tend to always be prowling on the bright side of the street.
Virgo – It’s no coincidence that planner extraordinaire is one of the luckiest signs of the zodiac. Virgos only become successful because they put in the hours and werk, girl.
Scorpio – Magnanimous Scorpio has definitely got it going on when it comes to luck. They’ll often find themselves in the right place at the right time as if by magic, much to the annoyance of some less fortunate souls.

Double luck
Derek and Dawn Ladner, from Redruth, Cornwall, were thrilled when the same six numbers they used every week finally came up in the midweek lottery draw.
They initially claimed £479,142 from the £2,395,710 jackpot due to bagging the top prize with five other winners.
However, a week later Derek, then 57, was in for quite the shock when he found a second lottery ticket in his pocket.
It was from that same winning draw and thanks to his forgetfulness – when he bet twice with the same lucky numbers – their winnings increased to £958,284.
In 2007, lottery operator Camelot told the Daily Mail: “[Derek] bought one winning ticket but forgot about it, then he went off to buy another and ended up with two shares.”

Explained: The National Lottery
The National Lottery raises money to go to many ‘good causes’ and have helped give out numerous grants to those that need it most.
On their website they state: “We retain around just 1% of revenue in profit, while around 95% of total revenue goes back to winners and society. More so, we run one of the most cost-efficient major lotteries in Europe, with around 4% of total revenue spent on operating costs.
“To date, National Lottery players have helped to raise over £43 billion for Good Causes, with more than 635,000 individual awards made across the UK – the equivalent of more than 225 lottery grants in every UK postcode district.”

Explained: The EuroMillions
EuroMillions was launched on February 7, 2004, by lotteries in France, Spain and the UK – with the first draw being held in Paris six days later.
In October of that year, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Switzerland joined.
Draws are held every Tuesday and Friday evening, with them all taking place in Paris at 8.45pm local time – 7.45pm in the UK.
You will choose five main numbers and then two lucky stars (numbers), with prizes ranging from around £2.50 up to the jackpot.
The prize values vary depending on ticket sales and the number of winners in each prize tier.

I won £1million on EuroMillions
Holly Saul scooped the prize in the UK draw after her father-in-law reminded her to purchase a ticket.
The 29-year-old, from Cambridge, recalled bursting into tears of joy when she was told she had won.
The news followed just hours after her partner of eight years, Ben Lowther, 38, had said earlier: “I’m not gullible enough to play the lottery.”
Holly, who has two children, said: “We were both so shocked that I decided the only sensible option was to pour myself a G&T and Ben a Guinness.
“Then we sat in the garden for an hour staring into space, looking at each other and giggling like children. It was the most surreal and most wonderful time.
“What’s even better, I’ll forever tease Ben about his cheeky comment.”

What age do you need to be to play?
Those feeling lucky now have to be over 18 to play, as the minimum age goes up from 16 to 18.
That means it is illegal for any retailer to sell these goods to anyone under the age of 18 – and will apply to favourite games like Lotto and the EuroMillions.
Online sales of lottery tickets and scratchcards have already been banned – this came into force in April this year.
The new age restriction, which was exclusively revealed by The Sun, aims to make sure the lottery is not a “gateway to problem gambling”, minister for sport, tourism and heritage Nigel Huddleston previously said.
Gambling is illegal for under-18s.

What number is most likely to scoop a jackpot?
National Lottery ball number 27 is the most likely to help punters win a jackpot, researchers say.
It has made more appearances than any other in 3,071 draws in the past ten years.
The number came up 399 times in the UK National Lottery, Thunderball, EuroMillions and Irish Lotto.
That is 141 more times than number 57, the unluckiest number, which was drawn just 258 times.
The second luckiest is 54, which appeared 387 times. It was followed by 29, 42, 52 and 58 in joint third on 381 times.
The next luckiest was number 20 with 378. Then came 23, with 372.

‘Tough’ couple of years for £300,000 winner
Sean said the win came at the end of a “really tough” couple of years.
He lost his father to cancer in the summer and is now planning to pay off his dad’s funeral costs and buy a headstone to help his mum out.
He also wants to use his winnings to follow his dreams and retrain as a videographer.
He said: “This win has opened up so many doors and will give me the security to explore a whole new career, so I’m going to do exactly that.”
Sean, who moved in with his parents a couple of years back, also wants to buy a flat and go travelling in Australia and South East Asia.

How would you react after winning £300,000?
For the majority of us it is something we can only dream of, however for some it is reality.
Plumber, Sean Irwin, screamed for joy after discovering he had won £300,000 on a scratchcard.
Sean bought the £3 National Lottery Ruby Doubler Scratchcard during a quick run to the shops for him and his workmate.
He could not believe his luck so he asked his boss Bill to double check the ticket.
The incredible video then showed the screaming pair in Sean’s car calling Camelot, who confirmed the whopping win.

Boob jobs for sisters
Sarah Cockings from Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear won a whopping £3million in April 2005 when she was just 21.
She claimed to “live a very normal life” despite her vast fortune, and after the money dropped in her account she treated her siblings Emma and Alex to matching boob jobs.
“Just after I won, I bought my two sisters boob jobs but now I’ve had one myself, because mine were wrecked by breastfeeding,” she told the Daily Mail in 2019.
Sarah, who said she “loved” her surgically enhanced chest, also went back to university so that her mum could have a “picture of me graduating”.
Eight years after winning the lottery she decided to quit her job as a social worker and pursue modelling opportunities, where she’s found ultimate happiness.
“Up until now there’s no bad part of being a millionaire – I’ve loved every minute,” Sarah added.
