KOTA KINABALU: A bizarre procedure to help a boy whose tongue was stuck in the mouth of a juice bottle was performed by doctors at Hospital Ranau.
Ranau Fire and Rescue station chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said the six-year-old was drinking from the bottle and it is unclear how he got his tongue stuck.
The kindergarten pupil had to be taken to the hospital, while firemen were also called in to help on Monday (April 11).
“We received a call from the hospital about the matter at about 2.49pm, and went to assist,” he said when contacted on Tuesday (April 12).
He said they initially wanted to cut the bottle, but later decided it was too risky.
“So, the doctors used their skills to slowly get the boy’s tongue out of the bottle,” Ridwan said.
He said the procedure took about an hour and the boy did not sustain any injuries.
