JOHOR BARU: The decision by two traffic policemen to stop an ambulance on Saturday (March 5) was to avoid a possible collision with a passing convoy.
Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Rupiah Abdul Wahid said this in reference to a 46-second video widely shared on social media over the weekend.
She said the two traffic policemen from Johor Baru North police district headquarters were on duty to control traffic in conjunction with Jelajah Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia at Angsana Mall Johor Baru.
“The ambulance was coming from Jalan Danga Bay heading towards Skudai," she said in a statement on Monday (March 7).
ACP Rupiah said the two policemen took all safety aspects into consideration in ordering the ambulance to stop, as the convoy was already passing the junction and heading towards the event venue.
She added that if the ambulance had been allowed to proceed, it could have collided with the vehicles in the convoy.
“The two policemen allowed the ambulance to depart after the convoy had left the area," she said.
ACP Rupiah said a police report was lodged and the case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code.
She also advised social media users to refrain from posting comments and misleading information to avoid public disorder.
