JOHOR BARU: Ten Rohingya refugees were fined between RM300 and RM800 each by the Magistrate Court’s here for committing several traffic offences on Tuesday (Nov 23).

       Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Rupiah Abd Wahid said they were fined for not possessing valid driving licence, no vehicle insurance coverage and modifying the structures of a vehicle.

       "All the offenders paid their fines totalling RM7,100," she said in a statement.

       ACP Rupiah said these fines were issued under Section 26(1) and Section 90 of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Regulations 34 LN 170/93, 1959 under the Traffic Rules.

       She said the refugees were fined following Ops Khas Motosikal Roda Tiga conducted by police in the Johor Baru North police district on Nov 16.

       "During the operations, the offenders were riding three-wheel motorcycles carrying scrap materials to be sold to shops for recycling," said ACP Rupiah.

       She added they were found to be riding the motorcycles in dangerous manner, which could pose risks to other road users.
