KUWAIT CITY, May 30: The Permanent National Committee for the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, has signed a cooperation protocol with the Association of Lawyers. This initiative underscores the Committee’s commitment to promoting and disseminating the culture of combating trafficking in persons and consolidating the values of justice and awareness.

Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and Deputy Chairman of the National Committee, Tariq Al-Asfour, emphasized that this protocol represents a significant step in fostering cooperation with national public benefit associations. These organizations play a crucial role in identifying and assisting victims of trafficking.

Al-Asfour highlighted that this collaboration aligns with a key component of the National Strategy to Prevent Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants: building partnerships and enhancing cooperation at internal, regional, and international levels. The measures outlined in the National Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants 2023-2028 aim to strengthen national frameworks to combat these crimes effectively.

The cooperation protocol aims to raise community awareness about combating trafficking in persons across all societal segments through all legally available means. It also seeks to provide legal assistance and advice to victims of trafficking crimes, informing them of their rights and available legal remedies. Additionally, the protocol focuses on monitoring suspected trafficking cases by international standards and national laws, ensuring due diligence in protecting workers’ rights, and minimizing violations. This includes providing legal advice electronically and through modern communication methods.

By enhancing legal support and awareness, this cooperation is expected to significantly bolster the national efforts to combat trafficking in persons and support victims comprehensively.
