TRANSGENDER women can be housed in female jails, a court has ruled.
The policy was challenged by a lag who said she was sexually assaulted by a trans prisoner.

But yesterday the High Court ruled it was legal.
Judges said barring all trans women would ignore their right to live as their chosen gender.
They said: “There is no reliable statistical case that transgender women prisoners pose a disproportionate risk of harm.”

The lag who brought the case said in a statement that trans women with a history of violence and sexual offending should be excluded.
There were 97 sexual assaults, seven by trans prisoners, in women’s jails between 2016 and 2019.
