Friends of a person attacked by a bull mastiff in Yorkshire say they have been left traumatised by the attack.

CCTV footage of the attack shows the victim trying to lift his dog away from the rampaging hound before being attacked.

The victim, in a blue fleece and dark trousers, can been seen spinning around as the bull mastiff locks onto his left arm.

The man then falls into the street before a BMW intervenes to try and scare off the dog.

Witnesses to the attack on Tuesday afternoon said the victim “looked like he’d been stabbed” before he went to a nearby GP surgery and then to hospital.

The incident was captured on CCTV owned by Meeran Hassan, 40, who said he’s complained about that specific bull mastiff multiple times.

He said: “I've complained about the dog loads of times to the police, but they've never done anything about it.

"It just non-stop barks because they leave it outside all the time.

"I think the owner is a taxi driver who only comes at certain times of the day to let it out and feed it. But it is left outside for the majority of the time.”

He added: "It started barking a couple of months ago - when the family moved in but I think it's quite an old dog.

"It seems hungry - like nobody feeds it. I've never actually seen the dog until today - it's scary."

A witness to the attack said she saw the aftermath of the accident. She recalled: “I looked out of my window and saw a man covered in blood, looking like he'd been stabbed.

"It was very scary because you want to protect your children. There's a school nearby, it could have been a child.”

Armed police responded to the attack and said the man had been left with non-life-threatening injuries.

They said they had arrested a man on suspicion of having a dangerous dog out of control.

They said: “A 53-year-old man from Sheffield has now been arrested on suspicion of having a dangerous dog out of control and remains in police custody at this time as enquiries continue.

"We are still looking to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has CCTV or car dash cam footage which may have captured the incident.”
