KLANG: Public transport operators are reminded to strictly adhere to the stipulated standard operating procedures (SOP) now that interstate travel is allowed, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister also reminded public transport workers to be alert and careful.

He added that the government understood that Malaysians had been unable to go back to their hometowns for a long time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The Transport Ministry would like to remind public transport operators in all land, air and maritime sectors to avoid complacency and always adhere to the SOPs under the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

"All operators must ensure that every passenger or public transport user shows their vaccination certificate to prove that they have been fully vaccinated as required in the SOP for interstate travel," Dr Wee said in a statement Monday (Oct 11).

The MCA president added that wearing face masks, frequently washing hands or using hand sanitisers must also be stringently adhered to.

He said public transport users were encouraged to carry out Covid-19 self-testing before travelling interstate in order to ensure their safety as well as that of their families and people who come in contact with them.

Public transport users are also encouraged to take the Covid-19 self-screening test before embarking on an interstate journey to protect themselves, their families and those around them, added the minister.

Dr Wee also said the ministry extended its appreciation to the many frontliners who had worked tirelessly to help push up the Malaysian adult vaccination rate to 90.02% as of Oct 10.

"Appreciation also goes out to all security personnel who have worked day and night to maintain the peace and security of the Malaysian Family," said Dr Wee.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had announced on Sunday (Oct 10) that interstate travel was now allowed.

Malaysians travelling overseas also no longer needed to apply for the MyTravelPass.

Those returning to Malaysia, however, are still required to undergo mandatory quarantine.
