Jobless man arrested for allegedly trespassing into teachers’ quarters in Labuan

       KOTA KINABALU: A 33-year-old jobless man has been detained by police for allegedly trespassing into a teachers’ quarters in Labuan.

       Labuan district police chief Supt Ahmad Jawila said prior to that, a report was received Sunday (July 18) that an unknown person had trespassed the quarters at SK Pekan 1 around 2.20pm.

       "According to police investigation, the person who reported the matter and two friends went to inspect the location after hearing about someone sneaking in.

       "At level 3 of the quarters building, they became suspicious of a closed door at the toilet, and pushed to open it.

       "The suspect believed to have been hiding there was caught by surprise and climbed out of the toilet's window in an attempt to flee.

       "But after jumping off three floors, he was found lying on the ground, believed to be from sustaining injuries," said Supt Ahmad in a statement on Monday (July 19).

       The police upon reaching the scene, made further inspections, and found a bag containing a wrecking bar, believed to belong to the suspect.

       "The ambulance took the suspect to the hospital for further treatment, where he was found to sustain injuries on the head and on the waist, as well as a broken left arm, but he was reported to be stable.

       "A check on his background found that the suspect who is a local, has a past criminal record for three offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he added.

       Supt Ahmad said if found guilty under Section 448 of the Penal Code for house-trespass, the suspect is liable to jail up to three years, a fine up to RM 5,000, or both.
