MELAKA: A 24-year-old woman has been fined RM2,800 by the Magistrate’s Court here for prostitution.

       Magistrate Khairunnisak Hasni meted out the fine on Zami Nor Aida Che Ya yesterday after she pleaded guilty to committing the offence at a hotel in Jalan Tun Sri Lanang in Melaka Tengah at 7.40pm on Jan 5.

       The charge was framed under Section 372B of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of one year or fine, or both, upon conviction.

       The court also ordered the accused to serve four months in jail if she failed to pay the fine.

       The accused was represented by counsel Muhammad Izzuddin Ab Malek from the National Legal Aid Bureau while deputy public prosecutor Raya Wardah Ishar prosecuted.
