Foreign funds snap 7-week selling spree

       KUALA LUMPUR: After seven weeks of net outflow, foreign investors turned net buyers last week with a marginal inflow amounting to RM14.07mil, according to MIDF Research.

       The research house said foreign investors were net sellers two days of the week.

       The largest foreign outflow was recorded on Thursday with the smallest outflow on Monday to the tune of RM25.9mil and RM21.96mil respectively.

       MIDF noted that Wednesday and Friday saw foreigners as net buyers at RM30.58mil and RM31.35mil respectively.

       As for the retailers, MIDF said they were net buyers for half of the week. Cumulatively, for the week, retailers net bought RM78.96mil worth of equities in Bursa.

       Meanwhile, local institutions recorded cumulative weekly net selling to the tune of RM93.04mil. Local institutions were net sellers on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with the largest net selling on Friday to the tune of RM62.31mil.

       “Since the beginning of 2021, cumulatively, retailers have been the only net buyers of our equity market to the tune of RM9.38bil.

       “Local institutions and foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of RM3.40bil and RM5.98bil, respectively,” MIDF said.

       In terms of participation the retail investors, local institutions, and the foreign investors recorded a weekly movement of -1.64%, -0.19%, and -15.87% respectively in average daily trade value.

       Hong Leong Bank registered the highest net money inflow of RM2.56mil last week.

       IHH saw the second highest net money inflow of RM2.40mil while Heineken saw the third highest net money inflow of RM1.44mil.

       On the other hand, Inari saw the largest net money outflow of RM3.93mil last week followed by Top Glove with a net outflow of RM3.13mil and Public Bank with a net money outflow of RM2.08.
