MELAKA: Lion and dragon dance troupes can perform at the homes of revellers this upcoming Lunar New Year, say Melaka police.

Melaka Police deputy chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Razali Abu Samah said the troupes could make house-to-house visits.

“However, public performances are prohibited for this year,” he said when met after the handing-over ceremony between new and outgoing Melaka CID chief at the police headquarters in Bukit Beruang here on Thursday (Jan 27).

Asst Comm Lim Meng Seah assumed the duties as Melaka CID chief after his predecessor Asst Comm Azlan Abu was transferred to Bukit Aman.

SAC Razali added that dance troupe members must also be fully vaccinated and should abide by the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the festive period from Jan 31 to Feb 15.

“Family reunion dinners are allowed on the eve of Chinese New Year but there are guidelines for house visitation, including that the host must provide MySejahtera QR code for records and ensure the number of guests are at 50% capacity of the premises.

“The police will also continue crime prevention operations during the Lunar New Year season as well as intensifying patrols,” he said.

Melaka police also identified 12 roads in the state deemed as “hotspots” that will be monitored during this festive period.
