HGV driver says truckers hit with FINES because of Insulate Britain 'employers don't care'

Traffic chaos sparked by protesters from the climate change group lying on the M25 and at the Port of Dover means HGV drivers have been delayed for often hours at a time and are being punished as a result.

Speaking to GB News on Friday, driver Chris Proctor revealed how truckers face soaring fines from delivery companies who “don’t care” whether drivers have been held up or not by the protesters.

He slammed: “It affects us in every single way.

“We all have delivery times to stick to and if you’re late you potentially receive a fine from the delivery company.”

He added employers are not bothered if drivers are stuck on the M25 because someone has “decided to glue themselves to the Tarmac”.

Mr Proctor said: “At the end of the day we have deadlines to keep.”

He added how another major factor the protests are having on HGV drivers is the time truckers spend on the road and in traffic jams as they are only allowed to drive a certain amount of hours in a day.

The driver emphasised how as a result the protests are having a multi-faceted impact on the trade and drivers’ livelihoods.

Mr Proctor went on to question what the group think they are trying to achieve with the protests as he speculated the collateral damage of their actions.

He suggested: “If you think about it logically - you’re just pushing all that traffic that would be moving on the motorway onto the A roads and B roads.

“You’re going to gridlock them up and they [drivers] are going to be sat there on idle!”

He slammed: "So how is that helping the environment!? Actually you’re creating a bigger problem by doing that rather than allowing the traffic to flow. It makes no sense."

The driver concluded by suggesting the group will not win the hearts of the British public with the continued action adding how they should instead take their protest to the people in power.

The comments come as Insulate Britain have been banned from protesting on the M25 but instead took their protests to the Port of Dover on Friday where they caused traffic mayhem and sent tailbacks through the shipping port.
