PUTRAJAYA: Non-governmental organisations are demanding that politicians put an end to political bickering and place the needs and the well-being of the people first.
Malaysian Youth Council president Jufitri Joha said that for now, all parties irrespective of political beliefs should set aside differences, sit together and unite in the fight against the pandemic.
“Our politicians should come together and develop a successful exit plan. They should work hand in hand to ramp up the vaccination rate. Politicians from all parties should also come together to see how they can aid the rakyat who are facing financial difficulties.
“This is not the time to wage a political war that will only cause more worry and suffering among the people,” said Jufitri.
He said the Rulers had also delivered a clear message on the matter, pointing out that the Regent of Pahang had said this was not the time for political leaders to engage in a power struggle.
“The council stands with the people who are tired of the current situation. We want political leaders to take pity on the people, and to focus on national recovery,” he said.
Malaysian Ulama Association president Datuk al-Syeikh Abdul Halim Abdul Kadir called on the people, including political leaders, to respect the advice of the Rulers for the sake of stability.
He said that aside from the Regent of Pahang, the Sultan of Johor had also expressed disappointment at attempts to disrupt the government and to jostle for power.
“The people are fed up with the antics put up by politicians who, day after day, only think of how they can gain power. This includes retracting their support for the Prime Minister.
“Be reminded that all action taken must be in accordance with the law,” he said.
