SEREMBAN: Some households located on high ground in parts of Nilai, Port Dickson and here have been experiencing lower-than-usual water pressure due to glitches at two dams.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the Ngo-ngoi water treatment plant which supplies treated water to these areas used to get 170 million litres per day (mld) of raw water a day from the Triang and Petaseh dams but this has been reduced to some 150 mld in recent days.

"We had a problem at the Petaseh dam where floods had damaged a pump used to draw raw water.

"We then set aside RM500,000 for repairs but after work started, more funds are needed as the repairs are more extensive than initially thought," he said, adding that the repair cost had spiralled to RM2mil.

Aminuddin said at the same time, the volume of raw water from the Triang dam was also reduced and upon checking, it was discovered that there was a faulty valve.

He said work to replace the valve started on Tuesday (Jan 23) and is expected to be completed within a day.

He also said the reduced supply of raw water from both dams had caused water pressure to drop and some consumers living on higher ground at the end of the supply network were affected.

The affected areas include Nilai Perdana, Sendayan, Bandar Springhill and Lenggeng.

"We hope the situation will return to normal soon as remedial works have already started," he said.

On a separate matter, Aminuddin said no decision has been made yet to fill the vacant post of the Deputy Speaker of the state legislative assembly.
