SEGAMAT: Barisan Nasional is targeting a victory with at least two-thirds majority in the Johor election, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said Barisan has a good chance of winning but the coalition needs to secure more than a simple majority.

“As I have said, in any competition, before the final whistle is blown and a winner is declared, we cannot say that we have won,” said Ismail Sabri, who is Umno vice-president.He said the Barisan election machinery must continue to work hard as they could not just rely on self-confidence to win the polls.

“Although the Johor Mentri Besar (Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad), the Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and I are confident, that will not be enough.“Our election machinery must work hard as long as we have yet to win. This is because we want to achieve better; we do not want just a simple majority.

“If it is possible, we want Barisan to get two-thirds,” he told reporters after launching the Rumah Keluarga Malaysia Angkatan Tentera (RKMAT) programme at the Segamat camp here yesterday.

Barisan is contesting in all 56 seats.

Earlier in his speech, Ismail Sabri said the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) had declared a dividend of 4.1% for 2021, the highest since the change of government in 2018.

He attributed this to the commitment and joint efforts by the Defence Ministry, LTAT and other stakeholders.

Referring to the revenue for the financial year of 2021, he said LTAT had recorded a higher increase in gross income of 50.2% to RM512.3mil, compared to RM341.1mil last year.

“God willing, it will go higher next year,” he said.

He added that the LTAT is in the midst of implementing its transformation plan, including amendments to the Armed Forces Fund Act.“Firstly, it will provide flexibility for the contributors to increase their employee or individual share contribution rates to more than 10%, while the second option (gives) contributors the choice to continue saving with LTAT despite having their services ended,” he said.
