JOHOR BARU: Police here have arrested three suspects for allegedly abusing two young brothers under their care.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay confirmed they received a report at around 5.31pm on Friday about two siblings being abused by their babysitter and her family members at a house in Taman Bukit Kempas here.
“Based on the information, police arrested the husband and wife, between the ages of 37 and 57, as well as their teenage niece who is still a minor,” he said here on Saturday (July 17).
Comm Ayob Khan added investigations revealed that the two victims are aged two and three, and had been sent to the babysitter’s house since 2018 by their parents, who work as a cook and a factory operator.
“The suspects allegedly abused the victims by kicking, hitting and stepping on them at around 3pm on June 10, and police believe this is not the first incident,” said Comm Ayob Khan.
“Medical checks at Sultanah Aminah Hospital found both victims have soft tissue injuries and are being treated at the same hospital,” he added.
Comm Ayob Khan also said the sitter and her husband have been remanded for seven days until July 23, while the other suspect, due to her age, is being remanded for three days until July 19.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
