GOMBAK: A woman and her boyfriend were detained for allegedly abusing and neglecting her two daughters.

       A 35-year-old man, who was the children's guardian, was also detained to assist investigations.

       The children, aged two and three years old, respectively, were initially rescued by a social activist, who saw them playing in Taman Samudera at about 1pm on Saturday (July 17).

       He then reported the matter to the police.

       Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said initial investigations revealed that the two girls stayed with their mother and her boyfriend at a flat in Taman Samudera.

       "We also discovered cuts and bruises on the children's hands, legs, cheeks and chins.

       "They were sent for further checks at Selayang Hospital," he said when contacted Sunday (July 18).

       The woman and her boyfriend, both aged 22, were detained at about 9.30pm on Saturday along with the guardian, he added.

       "One of the suspects had a criminal record for a drug-related offence.

       "We will investigate the matter further," he said.
