A PUBGOER killed an unborn baby girl after kicking her pregnant mum in the stomach, a court heard.

Roger Bygrave, 37, was allegedly captured on CCTV kicking a woman and attacking her sister during a Valentines' Day altercation at the pub in Dartmouth, Devon.

Bygrave had downed around ten pints of cider before the incident on February 14 last year, Plymouth Crown Court heard.

The women were socialising at the venue while their mum worked behind the bar.

Bygrave took a glass outside the pub, but was quickly told told by staff that the drink should be in a plastic cup, the jury were told.

The court heard he gave a "finger" to the staff and customers as he walked out - before being confronted by the landlord.

Prosecutor Adrian Chaplin said the pregnant woman went outside to use her own barmaid experience to calm things down.

But she was kicked in the abdomen and felt immediate pain, he added.

The woman - who has not been named - was 28 weeks pregnant and had to undergo an emergency Caesarian operation.

Tragically her baby daughter was stillborn.

In a police interview, Bygrave - from Dartmouth - said there was an altercation outside the pub and he pushed the landlord away.

He claimed someone came up to him and "slapped and punched me in the head".

Bygrave grabbed and kicked them but did not know who it was, he added.

He told cops: "I have kicked someone coming to me. I just kicked out. Someone jumped on me. It just happened so quick."

Bygrave denies child destruction, causing grievous bodily harm with intent to the pregnant woman, and a third charge of assault causing actual bodily harm to her sister.

Mr Chaplin said Bygrave claimed the pregnant woman was at his side when his kick landed and he had no intention of destroying the life of an unborn child.
