PETALING JAYA: Popular social activist Kuan Chee Heng, fondly known as Uncle Kentang, is warded at Serdang Hospital as a Category 4 patient of Covid-19.

Kuan informed his Facebook followers of his condition and apologised for being unable to attend to phone calls, in a post on Monday.

“Sorry, my phone will be switched off for seven days as I am currently in Serdang Hospital.

“Our office will also be closed for four days starting today (Feb 7) with our hotline being switched off apart from ambulance services,” he posted.

Category 4 patients are those that have inflammation in the lungs and require supplemental oxygen.

Kuan also wrote that he had doubled the ambulance for Covid-19 purposes to two as more people were contracting the virus.

He called on members of the public to stay safe while also staying masked at all times.

The comment section of the post was filled with followers expressing shock at the news while offering well wishes for his speedy recovery.A post later that evening said Kuan was in a stable condition but required to remain warded for further medical observation.

“He has been breathing normally with all indicators shown to be stable.

“We thank the medical staff for their care and also members of the public for their wishes,” said the post.

Despite his current condition, Kuan’s charitable work appears to continue with a Facebook post on several needy persons based in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, along with an update on his ambulance services.

The post advises those who need help on Covid-19 to call 012-242 3360 and those requiring the ambulance service to contact 011-5505 2148.
