KLANG: There was confusion about how to obtain the RM1,000 disaster aid from the Selangor state government recently.
Many had lodged police reports affirming they were victims of the recent floods, thinking it was required of them to qualify for the aid.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari clarified the matter that no police reports were required to claim the RM1,000 under the state government's Bantuan Selangor Bangkit fund.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday (Dec 27), Amirudin said flood victims can apply for the disaster relief fund from Wednesday (Dec 29).
He added police reports were required for only those seeking aid who had lost their MyKad.
Amirudin said there were three categories of applicants - those staying at the state's temporary relief centers (PPS); those living in private or their own relief centres, or those who have remained at home.
"Those in the state's PPS or waiting to go into one will be automatically registered for the financial aid," said Amirudin.
He added the other categories can register at the soon-to-be established one-stop centres.
"You will also be able to download the application forms Online and we are mobilising officers to go to your homes and get the necessary information for us to channel the financial aid to you," said Amirudin.
He added the funds for those in the PPS will be disbursed from Wednesday, whilst those who aren’t will be paid beginning Jan 3, 2022.
"We hope to complete the disbursements of relief funds by the end of January," said Amirudin.
He added that Muslims will also receive RM600 from Zakat Selangor.
According to Amirudin, more than RM369mil has been spent on cleaning-up, road repairs and supplying drinking water to the victims.
The Mentri Besar also thanked the many people who had come forward to help cleaning-up of the flooded areas and said some 13,699 tonnes of garbage has been collected to date.
Amirudin also urged volunteers to register themselves with the state agencies to ensure their safety as well as facilitate smooth coordination of relief work between all parties.
He said two volunteers had lost their lives.
Amirudin said those who want to help or require assistance can register with teguhbersama.com.
He said relief efforts were being coordinated by Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng.
The Selangor state government has also postponed all New Year state celebratory events.
