SIBU (Bernama): Consumers in several areas in the Subis and Beluru districts in Miri Division have been experiencing an unscheduled water supply disruption from Saturday (Aug 7) afternoon due to a burst pipe at the Pan Borneo Highway construction project area.
The Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), in a statement Sunday (Aug 8), said that the affected areas include Bukit Song, Bekenu, Bukit Peninjau, Beluru Phase 2 and the coastal areas of Bekenu.
"The repair work was completed at around 2am Sunday. The water supply in the affected areas will be restored in stages and it will likely take longer in areas that are located at the end of the supply chain or are on high grounds in hilly areas,” it said.
It also said that its technical team in Miri had detected two more leaking pipes near the Marudi junction this morning.
It added that existing JBALB pipelines are often damaged by the ongoing construction work on the Pan Borneo Highway.
"Miri JBALB will deliver water to the affected areas to ensure that consumers can perform their daily activities until the repair work is completed by the highway construction contractor.
"JBALB and the Pan Borneo Highway will work together to address this issue. The latest developments will be updated on JBALB's social media platforms,” it said. - Bernama
