'I tried bizarrely-shaped Easter egg - it was delicious but one thing left be gobsmacked'

A food reviewer tried a chocolate Easter egg with a strange shape from Waitrose and the price has got people talking.

Food reviewer Billy, also known as Big Daddy B on social media is a creator at Food Review Club – the UK's premier food reviewing platform. He recently put Waitrose's chocolate croissant Easter egg to the taste, which is crafted from sumptuous blonde chocolate.

Despite its luxurious make-up, the £15 price tag has caused quite a stir. Taking to Instagram, Billy shared his thoughts: "Trying the viral chocolate croissant egg from Waitrose Episode.

"These have literally just hit the streets and priced at £15. It's a blonde chocolate shaped croissant with milk chocolate crumbs and drizzle, nothing in the middle so let's talk about the chocolate."

He lavished praise on the chocolate quality, calling it "some of the best blonde chocolate I've tried." Billy was impressed, describing the treat as "banging" and commending its "so creamy, so indulgent, so well balanced."

He noted the chocolate's "nice and thick" texture and "super rich" flavour, enhanced by milk chocolate crumbs that add "a bit of crunch and texture to it." His final verdict was glowing: "Overall I think this tastes amazing."

However, he did concede that the Easter egg might be "a little bit overpriced for what it is but the quality is there for sure," before giving it a "whopping 8.9 out of 10." The supermarket unveiled its No. 1 The Chocolate Croissant as a "grown-up Easter treat, beautifully made in luxuriously creamy blonde chocolate with crunchy little pieces of biscuit."

The innovative creation is composed of hollow white chocolate infused with caramelised sugar, feuilletine wafer, and caramel bits, all adorned with milk chocolate and milk chocolate vermicelli. Billy's Instagram reel went live on February 2 and has since attracted 589,000 views along with 6,233 likes.

It has sparked confusion and comments from users baffled by the croissant shape. One perplexed user queried: "What has a croissant got to do with Easter though? Not sure I get the connection?"

They continued, disapprovingly: "Surely if they were going to do something a bit different they should have stuck to the Easter theme, maybe do a chick, bunny, heck a carrot for the bunny even. But a croissant?"

In addition to questioning the product's relevance to Easter, the price also caused a stir: "And £15!!! There's no Waitrose near me but even if there was, I wouldn't be tempted to part with £15 for any chocolate egg to be honest. Especially a croissant!"

Echoing the sentiment, another chimed in on the egg's cost: "£15 is a bit steep for that even for Waitrose." Yet another commenter was intrigued but remained skeptical: "This looks unreal but I just can't get with the idea of an Easter 'egg' being anything but the shape of an egg or do I need to get with the times.

While some customers were full of praise for the chocolate delight, with comments such as "need to try this, looks great" and "oh wow this looks amazing!", a representative from Waitrose stated: "Undoubtedly the pie?ce de re?sistance of our Easter range, we've combined online trends of hybrid croissants and all-things oversized in this luxurious and extra-large blonde chocolate creation, which has already been hugely popular with our customers."
