ISKANDAR PUTERI: A 34-year-old Bangladeshi man has been arrested for possessing 1,060 cartons of contraband cigarettes worth RM41,000 at Taman Melawati here.

       Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspect was arrested during a raid under Ops Kontraband in Nusa Bestari at about 8pm on Monday (Sept 6).

       "Our investigations led to a house in Taman Melawati that was guarded by the suspect.

       "Inspection of the premises found 1,060 cartons of untaxed cigarettes worth RM41,000 stored in a room behind the house," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 7).

       He added that police also confiscated the house keys.

       The case was being investigated under Section 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967 for importing prohibited goods that had not gone through Customs.
