KUALA LUMPUR: It’s another case of untruth being circulated, this time impacting immigration officers who were on duty.
A WhatsApp message had been circulated supposedly cautioning the public about a bogus officer making “house visits” in Ampang.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said it all started when a 60-year-old e-hailing driver, who lives in Pandan Indah here, made a police report about immigration officers coming to his house and whom he assumed were imposters.
“Our investigations revealed that two Immigration Department personnel from the Putrajaya headquarters had gone to the house for an official investigation.
“Both personnel also identified themselves and the reason they had gone to the house,” he said in a statement yesterday.
However, a message went viral shortly after about “bogus officers” going on house visits.
A picture of one of the officers was posted along with a voice note saying that the person came to a house and wanted to arrest someone.
The message also claimed that the house owner had refused to let him in but that the man came back later.
It also claimed that the vehicle used by the man had fake licence plates and that the logo on his uniform was fake as well.
However, ACP Mohamad Farouk stressed that the message was fake and it was an attempt to tarnish the good name of the officer involved.
“We have received a report from the Immigration officer involved,” he said, urging the public to stop spreading the message.
