Two people, including a two-year-old child, have been killed in a stabbing attack in a park on Wednesday morning.
Police arrested a 28-year-old Afghan national shortly after the attack, which also left two other people seriously injured.
Police, which is appealing for more information from members of the public, said the suspect was arrested near the scene - Schoental Park, located in the Bavarian city of Aschaffenburg in Germany.
According to German newspaper Der Spiegel, the detained man is an asylum seeker. Local media reports that the man was seen being detained and taken away in “a headlock”.
While police didn't share the nationality of the two victims, they revealed the other person who died following the stabbing was a 41-year-old man.
A police spokesperson moved to reassure the German public, stating: “We can rule out terrorism with almost absolute certainty."
Sch?ntal Park remains cordoned off, and a heavy police presence remains in the area. The Aschaffenburg criminal investigation department has taken over the investigation and is also asking for information from the public.
Schoental Park, an English-style garden in the Bavarian city, was classified as a "dangerous place" in November after a string of drug incidents, including assault and robbery, according to police chief Frank Eckhardt.
