The 20-year-old woman, who uses the name Britt on social media site TikTok, coughed up for a year's rent in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, one of the most expensive and sought-after places to live in the UK outside central London. Premier League footballers and TV stars reside in the country village, which is just outside Manchester.

       But the TikTok user found the area "too Tory" and moved away shortly after - despite parting with the lump sum.

       She received a backlash online for being "stubborn," Manchester Evening News reports.

       "Where were you staying please??? The Shard?? For ￡3k a month???" one TikTok user questioned, while another added: "What kind of a place was ￡3k a month rent?!!"

       "But why did you not just put a deposit down on a house?" one questioned, to which Britt responded: "I couldn’t get a mortgage because I was 19 and had no paid tax years yet. Should’ve just invested it."

       "No… Did no one in your life at the time tell you that’s not normal?" another added. She replied: "Yes, I was just stubborn."

       In the TikTok video, Britt had said: "I was renting in Alderley Edge in Cheshire and I moved like, somewhere else, because it was too Tory for me, but we got the money back for the months that we didn’t live there," she explained in a follow up clip, adding: "So, it’s all good but still, like, who does that? Me."

       David and Victoria Beckham previously resided in the leafy village, with a number of Coronation Street actors including Helen Flanagan, Denise Welch and Richard Fleeshman having bought homes in the area.

       The average property price in Alderley Edge is around ￡750,000 but some are more than ￡1,000,000.
