Policemen feared drowned were escorting explosives to a timber camp, says Kapit police

       SIBU: The two policemen who were feared drowned alongside two others on Thursday were escorting a delivery of explosive materials to a timber camp upriver.

       Kapit OCPD Deputy Supt Rohana Nanu said on Friday (March 8) that the two policemen were Sergent Johnathan Lambet, 51 and Constable Iskandar Zulkanain Ibrahim, 28.

       The two others were Jack Balan,44, the boat's driver, and Emaerson John James Nain,47, a company director.

       She said the two policemen had, on March 6, gone to Kuching as they were tasked to escort explosive materials of a company in Kuching to Kapit.

       "The next day, they embarked on a fibra boat at SK Lepong Baleh jetty in Kapit to a timber camp in Ng Tulie," she said.

       DSP Rohana said the boat with five people was hit by strong waves and capsised.

       One of them was rescued by a civilian who pulled him out of the water.

       She said the search and rescue operation for the four persons is ongoing.
