SHAH ALAM: The UiTM Shah Alam vaccination centre (PPV) will increase its capacity to inoculate 1,500 people a day in two weeks’ time, says its deputy vice-chancellor (academic and international) Prof Dr Roziah Mohd Janor.
So far, around 6,000 people, of whom about 10% were senior citizens, had been vaccinated there since it started operations on June 21, she said.
“Our daily capacity is around 720 vaccinations and this will increase to 1,500 a day in two weeks’ time when we start the second-dose inoculations,” she said at a press conference at the PPV yesterday.
Dr Roziah said the vaccination centre operates from 9am to 4pm and dispenses the Sinovac vaccine.
“We do not entertain walk-ins and only follow the MySejahtera registration system,” she said.
Dr Roziah also noted that the layout of the vaccination centre adopted the integration model developed by the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry.
The model, she said, has volunteers comprising UiTM staff and students as well as the private sector from Protect Health Sdn Bhd and Dahlia Clinic.
This centre is the second PPV managed by UiTM. The first, in Puncak Alam, is a mega PPV that started operations on June 7.
When met at the vaccination centre, Md Alias Mohd Yusof, 71, who previously contracted Covid-19, said he felt great after receiving the jab.“Since I entered the vaccination centre, it has been smooth all the way,” he said.
“I had actually registered for the vaccine before I got Covid-19, so I had to give my first vaccine appointment a miss. This is the rescheduled appointment for my first dose.”
He also urged the public not to be afraid of taking the vaccine, adding that the protection would prevent them from falling gravely ill from Covid-19.
Meanwhile, Latifah Sa’ad, 71, was overwhelmed with emotion as she finally received her first dose of the vaccine after registering for it last week.
“I am really happy to be vaccinated today. There was no pain. I am just really grateful for this,” she said as she teared up.
Latifah said her vaccination was over quickly and praised the volunteers for being “very helpful”.
Earlier, vaccination centre manager Dr Zaiton Nasir took members of the press for a tour around the PPV.
The PPV is equipped with a fast lane for the elderly and those with disabilities. Fifty wheelchairs are also available for use.
It has 12 vaccination rooms as well as a calm room and an emergency room.
