KOTA KINABALU (Bernama): Currently, about 10,000 to 11,000 people across Sabah are being vaccinated daily, says Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (pic).

In a statement on Sunday (July 4), Deputy Chief Minister said that the number could be increased to 20,000 people per day if the supply of vaccines to the state is sufficient.

"The vaccination process for the people in the country, especially in Sabah, needs to be expedited as the state government is targeting at least 85 per cent of Sabahans to be vaccinated by October,” he said.

As of June 28, Sabah has received 628,390 doses or 254,565 vials of Covid-19 vaccine for public use, and of that total, 601,420 doses of the vaccine have been administered under two phases of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme at the state level, as of Saturday (July 3).

The registration of Sabahans as vaccine recipients showed a cumulative number of 900,021, or 32.6 per cent, as of Saturday.

Meanwhile, Sabah Ethnic Groups Association president, Yahya Ahmad, in a separate statement, proposed that the Sabah Health Department conduct an integrated vaccination campaign by taking into account, among other things, data, population location, movement constraints and population density in each district.

He said that the move would enable the total vaccine doses to be distributed more fairly and the opening of PPVs to be managed strategically, not only focused at hospitals or halls, and vaccination teams could be deployed to each area according to a structured schedule aimed towards achieving the goal of herd immunity.- Bernama
