ALOR SETAR: The Kedah Health Department has denied allegations that a female student died from a Covid-19 vaccine in Baling recently.
Its director Dr Othman Warijo said the department investigated the matter and found the allegation was not true.
He said the girl was a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia school-leaver and no longer a student.
“She received a single dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on Sept 5, 2021, at Dewan Tun Abdul Razak vaccination centre in Baling.
“She complained of stomach pains on Sept 19 and was treated at Hospital Baling.
“However, 20 days after she was vaccinated, which was on Sept 25, she was taken to Hospital Baling because she was unconscious.
“Her health condition deteriorated and she was later pronounced dead,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Dr Othman said the body was taken to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah for an autopsy and the result found that she died due to a “ruptured thoracic aneurysm” that had nothing to do with the Covid-19 vaccine.
In MELAKA, a 12-year-old teenager who allegedly became unconscious after getting vaccinated at the Encore Vaccination Centre in Klebang, was confirmed to have been nervous, lacked sleep and did not have breakfast before being inoculated.
Melaka Health Department deputy director (Public Health) Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said the teenager appeared apprehensive during the vaccination process but did not indicate any side effects just after being injected or during the observation period.
“The teenager suddenly appeared weak and collapsed when heading to the parking lot and had to be supported by his family members back to the centre for further examination.
“A 30-minute observation by the medical team found the teenager to be stable and he was allowed to go home.
“A follow-up phone call to his family after that found the teenager healthy and active as normal,” he said in a statement.
Dr Rusdi said further investigation found the teenager had slept at 2am and ate only a spoonful of nasi lemak in the morning before receiving the vaccination.
On Thursday, a male teenager who allegedly blacked out after receiving a Covid-19 vaccine injection was highlighted on social media. — Bernama
