KOTA KINABALU: Centenarian Wong Kok Chew has been waiting for months to have his Covid-19 vaccine, and he finally got his first jab on Tuesday (June 29).
The 102-year-old is among Sabah’s oldest people to have been vaccinated thus far.
He was monitored for about 30mins after his jab at the Sabah Administrative Complex or known as mini Putrajaya here and was allowed to go home when there were no concerning side effects.
“I am happy, I feel fine and there is nothing to worry about,” said the father of eight when asked about his condition after the injection.
Wong’s daughter Anna, who accompanied him for the vaccination, said her father has been asking them daily when his turn would arrive.
“Whenever one of us gets our notification for the vaccination, he would ask why his turn has not come,” she said.

She said at first, they were worried that the vaccine would trigger serious side effects on her father, but due to his insistent assurance that he will be fine, and that he wanted to be vaccinated, she helped him register via MySejahtera.
Anna said a day before the jab, her father has been reminding them to make sure they get up earlier to drive him to get his vaccination.
The Kota Kinabalu vaccine centre coordinator, Dr Suhaila Osman who was present to oversee the vaccination process said Wong was alert and in good health despite his age.
She said health officials were quite concerned at first too when they saw him, due to his age and him arriving in a wheelchair.
However, Wong surprised everyone when he stood up and walked to the registration counter on his own.
“We hope Wong getting his Covid-19 immunisation would encourage others to come forward and register for their jabs as well,” she said.
