PETALING JAYA: A PAS lawmaker took a swipe at the government for being slow in providing Covid-19 vaccines for Kelantan.
Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PAS-Pasir Mas) attributed the low vaccination rate in his home state to several factors.
"It is not denied that the vaccination rate in Kelantan is slow.
"But this was due to our request for vaccines being ignored or not fulfilled by the Heath Ministry and Science, Innovation and Technology Ministry until September," he said when debating the motion of thanks on the Royal Address at the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Sept 14)
He said the situation has improved after an excess supply of vaccines from Klang Valley and other states were channelled to Kelantan.
Ahmad also said more than 20% of Kelantanese currently reside in Klang Valley although they are still using their home state address.
He said they were among those who had received their vaccines here, which helped push up the vaccination rate in Klang Valley.
Earlier this month, Kelantan’s Sultan Muhammad V urged residents in the state, who have yet to register for their vaccines, to do so.
Kelantan has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country with some 50% having received their shots.
