KUALA LUMPUR: Police have seized over RM4.17mil worth of fireworks after two raids in Kepong here.

       Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said police from the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department special investigations and intelligence division and Sentul police raided a warehouse at MWE Commercial Park as well as a house at Taman Kepong last Wednesday (March 23).

       "We received information that fireworks were being stored at the two locations.

       "We arrested five men aged between 21 and 51 and seized 1,059 boxes and 35 sacks of fireworks at the two locations," he told reporters when met at the Sentul police evidence depot on Sunday (March 27).

       He said further investigations revealed that two of the suspects had prior records for various crime activities.

       "We believe the fireworks were smuggled in from China by way of sea.

       "This group has been actively distributing these fireworks within the Klang Valley area for two years now," he said, adding that the fireworks seized was worth RM4.17mil.

       ACP Beh said the suspects have been remanded to assist further investigations.
