JOHOR BARU: Police arrested nine people for various offences during a roadblock operation dubbed "Ops Ambang Tahun Baru 2022" on New Year's Eve.
Johor traffic chief Supt M. Kumarasan said, on Saturday (Jan 1), that the operation was conducted to nab drink drivers and deter illegal racing.
"The nine suspects include eight men and one woman aged from 21 to 55 years old.
"Five of them were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol; one person was arrested for reckless driving; one person was arrested for driving with a fake licence, and two people were arrested after testing positive for morphine.
"A total of 13 roadblocks were set up from 11pm Friday (Dec 31) to 4am Saturday (Jan 1).
"We also seized 18 motorcycles during the same operation under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for exhaust modification," he said.
He added that the police had also issued 230 summonses for various offences as well as carried out 598 individual inspections and 492 vehicle inspections.
The cases are being investigated under Section 45A, Section 42, and Section 108 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The two who tested positive for drugs are being investigated under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
