PETALING JAYA: Various aid initiatives are being offered by the government to help flood victims get back on their feet, says Datuk Dr Seri Wee Ka Siong (pic).

The Transport Minister said he welcomed the Prime Minister’s move to increase the Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI) payment for flood victims from RM500 to RM1,000 per household.

“I also commend the RM500 cash voucher provided for the purchase of electrical goods to each family to replace electrical goods damaged by the floods,” he said in a Facebook post Saturday (Jan 1).

Dr Wee added that the government will also provide cash assistance of up to RM5,000 for home repair works for each family who had suffered non-serious damage.

“For serious damage, the government will assist in home repair works at a cost of up to RM15,000.

“For houses that are completely destroyed, the government will help with the rebuilding cost of up to RM56,000 per unit,” Dr Wee said, adding that a RM1,000 cash voucher was also provided for vehicle purchase or repair works.

He also said that 21 agencies under the Transport Ministry had coordinated volunteers to help the flood victims, including ministry staff who were affected.

Dr Wee added that the Transport Ministry would continue to support the country’s economic recovery in 2022.

He said the ministry was committed to ensuring the growth of the logistics and transportation sector.

“This is proven by the success of Port Klang and the Tanjung Pelepas Port in breaking a record in the handling of containers since the beginning of its operations.

“The Ministry, together with all agencies under it, will work hard to achieve many more successes for the benefit of the people and the country,” he said.
