BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have seized RM34.1mil worth of heroin and heroin base following six raids in Penang, Kedah and Perak.

Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Razarudin Husain said 11 suspects, aged between 22 and 58, were arrested for involvement in the syndicate.

"During the operation on Sept 3, we found a truck within an industrial area in Bukit Minyak and found 367.71kg of heroin in it worth RM34.1mil.

"The drugs were stored in boxes and covered with jeans.

"Two suspects were in the truck and there were subsequent raids in Kedah and Perak," he said.

He said eight of the suspects had multiple criminal and drug records and one of them tested positive for meth.

"Five vehicles worth RM745,000 were seized including a Mercedes-Benz E250, Toyota Vellfire and Range Rover Velar.

"A 42-year-old man who was arrested in Ipoh is believed to be the mastermind and RM6mil was found in his accounts," he said.

He said other properties including cash and jewelry worth about RM10mil were also seized.

Based on the initial investigation, Comm Razarudin said the drugs were for distribution in Penang.

All suspects have been remanded for seven days until Sept 10 to help investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
