IPOH: A semi-naked man was found dead on the road at KM19 of the East-West Highway in Gerik on Thursday (April 14).
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the victim, who was clad only in a towel, was found dead by a passer-by at about 8am Thursday.
Comm Mior Faridalathrash said the man is believed to be the victim of a hit-and-run.
"A post mortem conducted at Gerik Hospital found that the cause of death was due to serious injuries sustained to the body, possibly after being run over by a heavy vehicle such as a lorry.
"We do not suspect any foul play at the moment but will investigate the matter under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving causing death," he said.
Comm Mior Faridalathrash said the victim did not have any identification documents on him.
"We will try to find out his identity and the vehicle involved.
"There have been no reports of missing persons that are linked to the victim," he said.
"We urge those with information or who witnessed the incident to come forward to the nearest police station to help with our investigations," he added.
