KUALA LUMPUR: A 23-year-old man was forced to pay RM10,000 to prevent a video of him masturbating from being circulated online.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar (pic) said the victim had got to know a foreign woman on a messaging application at about 12.45am on Tuesday (July 13).
He added that the victim then downloaded an application via an invitation code, saying that the app then damaged his mobile phone.
“The victim subsequently received a video of him masturbating via a messaging application at about 1.30pm on July 14. He believed the video was obtained from the memory on his mobile phone,” said ACP Anuar.
He added that the victim was then instructed to pay a certain amount to prevent the video from being spread.
"The victim transferred a total of RM10,000 in four transactions to a bank account belonging to a local man," he said when contacted on Saturday (July 17).
ACP Anuar said the public should be wary of the modus operandi of such extortion scams.
"We have received 20 cases so far this year. Those with information can call the Brickfields police at 03-22979222 or KL police hotline at 03-21159999 or any nearest police station," he said.
