Melaka cops arrest four for riding motorcycles recklessly on NSE after video circulation
MELAKA: Jasin police tracked down four speed junkies to their hometowns in Kota Tinggi, Johor, a couple of days after a footage of them riding their motorcycles recklessly along the North-South Expressway (NSE), was circulated on social media.
Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Mispani Hamdan said the four, aged between 19 and 23, were detained separately between Tuesday (March 22) and Thursday (March 24) in a follow-up investigation.
He said police started an investigation into a Facebook post where the account holder recorded footage of the four riding in a dangerous manner along KM179 (southbound) of the NSE, at the Jasin stretch.
DSP Mispani said the act was recorded on Saturday, where the four were riding at a high speed.
“The video footage showed the four motorcyclists racing against each other, bowing their bodies and performing zig-zag stunts.
“They placed their lives in danger, as well as other road users,” he said on Thursday (March 24).
DSP Mispani said that his men also got the help from their Johor counterparts to track the four, and one of them is working as a fisherman.
He added all four have been remanded to assist investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
